Portland General Electric wanted to update their play offerings at Timber Park in Estacada OR. Timber park is a large wooded park along the Clackamas River. It offers day use areas, picnic shelters, ball fields, a boat launch, and a disc golf course. To leverage existing materials and staff skills PGE decided to add nature play features. Learning Landscapes Design leveraged existing logs and boulders and staff skills to maximize play value in a small site. Our team provided construction details, materials lists, and construction support for staff during the process. Log and boulder climbers, a play dock and a stone seating area accentuate the existing traditional slide and swings. The construction was used as a state wide training for installation and maintenance of natural play areas. Staff shared their experience, approaches, tools, and lessons learned in the installation process.
