Sunset Park is a beautiful property with just over 5 acres of mature fir forest nestled into a West Linn neighborhood. With the recent adjacent school construction the park has seen a change in use and was left with a reduced and aging play area. Learning Landscapes Design worked with the City to develop a master plan and design options for park improvements. Alongside city staff we shared these plans with the neighborhood association and incorporate their feedback into final plans and construction documents. Improvements included an ADA loop trail and park pathway system that addressed desire lines for school access as well as access to all existing site amenities. Two new picnic shelters and a new restroom building were located in the more developed and visible edge of the park along Bitner Ave. Our team worked to incorporate water play and gross motor play into the park. Three separate play stations were nestled within the existing canopy to reduce tree impact and take advantage of sunny locations on site. The play elements included a balance of natural components and playground equipment.
