150 Days Of Play Campaign : Playground Ideas

ABOUT PLAYGROUND IDEAS

Playground Ideas is one of my favorite organizations using play to do good in the world. I first highlighted their amazing work in this post a few years ago. They have continued to add amazing projects to their portfolio, including the one pictured below at the Ruben Centre School in Nairobi. Playground Ideas is a not-for-profit organization that designs and builds play spaces for the world’s most disadvantaged children, and they support and train others to do the same.

THE CAMPAIGN

Playground Ideas is launching their 150 Days of Play Campaign today. Their website hosts an open-source catalog of step-by-step instructions for building high quality, low cost, stimulating play elements. They now have over 150 designs on the site.  For 150 days straight they are going to be featuring a design a day from the design library on their blog (www.goplayproject.org) with examples of how they have been used around the world. Follow the link and join in to see the 150 days of designs.

THE MESSAGE

Play is absolutely essential to a child’s healthy development. Schools without stimulating play areas are damaging children’s development. This is a widespread global phenomenon, and it is unacceptable.
– There is no excuse not to create playspaces in every school nursery and community across the planet. Playground Ideas removes the barriers of cost, tools, maintenance, and skills.
They want people to join them. People can get involved by submitted their designs, helping a project, or donating to Playground Ideas so we can help projects. People can share their resources with schools and children centered organizations to insist that they create a stimulating playspace for their children.

Enjoy! I know I will. Learning Landscapes will periodically check back in and highlight ideas from the campaign.
